* BOTULINUM TOXIN TYPE A is used to treatcrossed eyes (strabismus), twitching of the eyelids (blepharospasm),and a neurologic movement disorder known as cervical dystonia. Peoplewith cervical dystonia have contractions of the neck and shouldermuscles. This causes abnormal and sometimes painful positions.Botulinum toxin relaxes these muscles and relieves the pain. The drugalso can help persons who suffer from excessive underarm perspiration.Dermatologists also use this toxin for cosmetic purposes, such assmoothing facial wrinkles. Generic botulinum toxin type A injectionsare not yet available.
